Temporary Publicity and Outreach Position

Youth Empowered Action Camp is looking for someone with strong PR, outreach, and communications experience for a month-or-so long gig to promote YEA Camp, our relatively new summer camp for youth who are passionate about activism, social justice and making a difference in the world. Looking for 5-10 hours per week contractor over the next month or so to supplement volunteer hours on this project, which is not proving to be sufficient. Your goal: our camps are full by the end of May.

Job Responsibilities:

Creating, prioritizing, and tracking outreach plan to reach target demographic throughout the Bay Area and possibly Oregon as well

Pitching media articles to relevant publications
Contacting progressive organizations, blogs, religious institutions, schools to ask them to publicize
Identifying and contacting online calendars to list us
Identifying events for our volunteers to do outreach at

Following up with interested contacts to send relevant information about camp and ensure publication
Feedback and improvement on existing messaging

Tracking outreach and results of your work through googledocs and phone so that our volunteers can supplement rather than duplicate your efforts
Generating new ideas for how our volunteer team and organization in general can generate greater publicity.

Requirements:

Highly Web- and New Media-savvy
Great communication skills - written and oral, including being direct with goals and requests

Integrity - following through on what you say you will do
Experience with messaging and earning various types of media

Adding value to our outreach and communications strategy, while also putting the time in to research, follow up, and track actions

All work will be done remotely. Hours are totally flexible. Start date: asap.
