Sustainable Northwest Wood seeks an experienced and motivated Sales Associate to join our team at our warehouse in Southeast Portland. This new position will oversee in-store customer service, walk-in clientele, and other administrative tasks as described below.
Sustainable Northwest Wood is a wholly-owned for-profit subsidiary of the non-profit organization Sustainable Northwest. We are a lumber wholesale company that partners with local mills to provide our regional green building community with an easily-accessible supply of FSC certified, local, and sustainably harvested dimensional lumber and Northwest hardwoods.
We stock lumber and plywood, decking, fencing, flooring, countertops, and much more, all from sustainably-managed forests in the Pacific Northwest. Our customers are building product suppliers, contractors, and furniture makers.
Our ideal candidate will have an interest in wood and a proven commitment to sustainability, as well as experience in customer service and sales. Ideal candidate will also have theoretical understanding and practical experience in accounting basics and familiarity with Quickbooks software.

Customer Service: Assist walk-in customers and oversee in-store customer service
Estimates: Oversee and distribute small- and mid-size bids
Logistics: Assist warehouse manager with lumber transportation arrangements
Quality control: Ensure all materials leaving warehouse match purchase orders and are invoiced correctly
A/P: Post and issue checks for lumber purchases and other bills. Order supplies.
A/R: Review invoices for accuracy. Mail statements and make collections.
Banking: Record deposits and take to bank. (Cash receipts posted by Sales staff)
Inventory: Record remanufacture inventory adjustments. Reconcile inventory detail to balance sheet.
Insurance: Keep payments and policies current. Maintain prepaid insurance schedule.
Inventory: Maintain product groups and classifications
Benefits: Maintain accurate records of employee health insurance benefits and premium withholdings.
General: File and backup on phones. Follow up with vendors and customers per Ryan’s direction.
Exemplary customer service skills and sales skills
Interest in wood and commitment to sustainability
Ability to handle multiple responsibilities and adapt to changing priorities
Familiarity with basic accounting principles
Knowledge of or ability to quickly learn QuickBooks
