The Northwest Earth Institute (NWEI) seeks a highly motivated and reliable individual for our internship program. The Higher Education (HE) Outreach intern will work closely with The Director of Higher Education to increase the use of NWEI discussion courses at colleges and universities around the country. The internship will last approximately 12 weeks, starting in September 2010. The Intern is expected to work part-time (10-20 per week). Hours are flexible between 9am-3 pm, Tuesday-Friday.
NWEI is a national leader in the development of innovative programs that empower individuals and organizations to transform culture toward a sustainable and enriching future. NWEI offers nine discussion courses including: 1) Global Warming: Changing CO2urse, 2) Healthy Children-Healthy Planet, 3) Choices For Sustainable Living, 4) Reconnecting with Earth, 5) Voluntary Simplicity, 6) Menu for the Future, 7) Discovering a Sense of Place, 8) Sustainable Systems at Work, and 9) A World of Health: Connecting People, Place and Planet. Responsibilities:
The Higher Education Outreach Intern’s job duties include, but are not limited to:
Working with NWEI staff on current and new projects
Compiling case studies and collecting testimonials from HE contacts
Conducting web research on sustainability programs
Data analysis and entry
Distribution and analysis of surveys of course participants
Developing innovative outreach strategies to connect with new constituencies
Qualifications:
Experience with advancing sustainability on campus
Ability to navigate the internet and conduct research
Proficiency in Word and Excel
Strong oral and written communication
Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail
Flexible and cooperative work ethic
Comfortable speaking to new contacts on the telephone
Compensation:
We are not able to offer compensation at this time, but can offer a fun and rewarding team experience, skills development, and flexible hours and time off as needed. In addition, NWEI is willing to assist students to receive credit (if eligible through your university).
