General Position Overview:
The Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) vision is to be an engine of the Northwest's economic prosperity and environmental sustainability. BPA Energy Efficiency advances the efficient use of energy throughout the Pacific Northwest by working with utility customers, trade allies, industry, and other partners. The 6th Power Plan indentifies energy efficiency will meet 85% of 20 year load growth in Northwest one of the most aggressive regional targets in the nation. This will deepen an energy efficiency resource that already accounts for 12% of the region’s energy resource.

The Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) Energy Efficiency department is undertaking a multi-year effort for the identification, assessment, and development of emerging energy efficiency technologies (E3T). E3T is a collaborative effort to "fill the pipeline" for Pacific Northwest utilities with innovative energy efficiency solutions and technologies that promise significant region-wide energy savings under the direction of BPA’s Office of Technology Innovation (TI). The project will address the research and development needs for the agricultural, commercial, industrial, and residential sectors in support of BPA’s energy efficiency program. This engineering position will support BPA in meeting public power’s share of the 6th Power Plan Energy Efficiency targets out of the Portland, OR office. Travel requirements: 10-20%.

General Requirements:
Education/Experience:
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering required. Mechanical preferred. Electrical, process/industrial degrees or related technical degree will be considered.
• 3-6 years energy efficiency engineering. 6+ years experience and PE license preferred

General Skill Requirements:
• Established project management skills. Experience leading R&D projects or developing new technologies.
• Proven ability to design, model mechanical systems and apply heat transfer, fluid dynamic and thermodynamic principals to analyze energy efficiency improvements.
• Experience with energy savings calculations, energy models (i.e. DOE 2.2) and data analysis methodologies.
• Must be self-motivated, self- disciplined, able to prioritize work and have good time management.
• Must be a motivated self-checker and have good written and oral communication skills.

Tasks:
Tasks may include but not limited to:
• Delivering emerging technology adoption in the PNW through research and demonstration.
• Leading assigned Emerging Technology Projects
• Develop research agenda in collaboration with BPA’s customers and regional entities
• Oversee lab test, field tests, demonstrations and pilots with regional and national partners.
• Validate technical direction of research including measurement and verification plans, testing procedures, project analytics and data analysis.
• Outreach to Utility customers, Marketing, Planning and Programs to create best practices, case studies, and technology application guides.
• Present on Emerging Technology projects to BPA, RTF and other stakeholders.
• Emerging Technology education and outreach
