PROJECT SUMMARY
Oregon Environmental Council has a dedicated, enthusiastic and diverse group of volunteers—and they need a dedicated,
enthusiastic leader! In partnership with the Confluence Environmental Center, the Community Volunteer Coordinator will
maintain and enhance programs for OEC’s corps of outreach, office and intern volunteers. The challenge is to recruit
interesting and talented people; put them to work towards achieving OEC’s environmental goals; and create leadership,
community-building and professional development opportunities to keep them enthusiastically engaged in our mission. The
coordinator will also be asked to use creative communication skills to create outreach “modules” related to clean &
plentiful water and environmental health.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS ( t o include, but not limit ed t o) :

  • Recruit and manage a corps of office, outreach and intern volunteers
  • Partner with staff to write and design two new outreach “kits” to support OEC programs
  • Manage and conduct one volunteer orientation and two volunteer leadership trainings
  • Conduct one public outreach event per month to share resources and raise awareness of OEC’s work
  • Design, organize and conduct activities and programs to recognize and celebrate volunteers
  • Complete and submit all necessary Confluence/AmeriCorps paperwork and reports in a timely manner.
  • Attend and complete all Confluence/AmeriCorps training and service requirements including orientation, training's,
    team meetings and national service days.
  • Wear Confluence uniform and/or appropriate identifiers and required safety gear while performing service or attending
    official events.

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • An independent, self-motivated, creative “people person” who enjoys public outreach.
  • Interest in cultivating positive environmental habits among individuals
  • Able to serve occasional evenings and weekend days
  • Demonstrated ability to develop project goals, timelines and reporting and to manage project teams
  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • 18 years of age or older, at beginning of service term.
  • U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident.
  • Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent, or commit to earning one prior to receiving award.
  • Ability to commit to the full term of service for which they are applying.
  • Must successfully pass a fingerprint criminal history background check provided through Confluence.
  • Regular and reliable attendance and dependability.
  • AmeriCorps members can enroll in multiple terms of service that add up to the value of two full-time education awards. In other words, you can blend summer, part-time and full-time service positions and receive awards as long as the combined service terms don’t exceed two full terms.     PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • An interest in social equity and environmental justice
  • Spanish language skills
  • Familiar with grassroots organizing or adult community education
  • Familiar with Oregon and Oregon’s diverse communities

    MEMBER BENEFITS INCLUDE

  • A taxable, monthly living allowance ($12,100 paid over the term of service).
  • Upon successful completion of a term of service, eligible members/leaders receive an education award of $5,550. The
    education award can be used to repay qualified student loans or for further education in an accredited institution of
    higher learning, vocational or trade schools. The education award is taxed in the year that it is used.
  • Loan forbearance (after successful completion of a term of service, AmeriCorps will pay the accrued interest on
    qualified loans, which is taxable).
  • Basic medical insurance (covers members only, not dependents; vision and dental not included).
  • Child care allowance for those who qualify.
  • Professional development, trainings and networking opportunities.

  • September 5, 2012 - July 30, 2013 (1700 hours – 11 months)

    Step 3 - Interview: The Project Sponsor will conduct all initial interviews and recommend a candidate for this position. All recommended candidates will also interview with Confluence Environmental Center.
