The International Society of Sustainability Professionals launches a certificate program in climate change with this first in the series on-line course.
This course meets on-line on Thursdays (February 4, 11, 18, 25) at 10am Pacific Time for 60-90 minutes.
Introduction to Climate Change covers the fundamental concepts related to global climate disruption and the associated risks and opportunities. Through the webinars, readings, and discussion forums we will examine the current science of climate change including anthropogenic and natural contributors to greenhouse gas emissions. We will explore the ramifications of climate change on ecosystems and ecosystem services, the human and social impacts, and the business risks and opportunities. We will also examine several case studies around the challenges of climate destabilization.
Participants will be able to:
* Communicate the science behind climate change.
* Utilize systems thinking to understand the complexities of climate destabilization.
* Describe the challenges of climate change and present clear reasoning why action on this important issue is necessary to preserve our ecosystem functions, economies, global social fabric and human health.
* Identify the most pressing risks and opportunities presented by climate disruption worldwide/ in your own region/industry/organization.
* Demonstrate an understanding of the next steps to leverage your climate change knowledge to take advantage of climate opportunities and minimize climate risks for your organizations.
