Living green roofs provide many benefits, including saving money on utilities while greatly extending the life of a roof. There’s more to a green roof than putting soil and plants up on your shingles, and this workshop will give you the opportunity to learn it from a regional industry expert.
This class is intended for homeowners interested in building an ADU on their property. For most homeowners, building an ADU is not simple or straightforward--it’s essentially the same job of being a land developer--- a job that most of us know have ever done or will likely ever do again. Many homeowners step into this process not knowing much about land development or new construction.
The Columbia Gorge Earth Center continues a 10-year tradition on Saturday, October 1st, with its tour of eco-friendly homes in Hood River and Mosier. One of the year's best opportunities to learn about green building techniques happens at the 10th annual Build It Green! Home Tour and Information Fair tour on Sept. 24, 2011. Presented by the City of Portland Bureau of Planning and Sustainability, the self-guided tour will feature 22 green remodels and new homes around the Portland metropolitan area. The largest non-traditional career fair of its kind, Oregon Tradeswomen, Inc. produces the interactive Women in Trades Career Fair to increase the overall number of women working in the trades and to help fill the eminent gap in the labor force that will be created with record-levels of upcoming retirements of skilled trades people.
Produced annually since 1993, this unique, industry sponsored and volunteer powered event offers dozens of hands-on activities designed to introduce women and girls to the possibility of a future career in the trades.
In addition to farmers market booths we will have 10-15 local non-profits, agencies and local businesses all working in the sutainability field.

Preservationists already know that the greenest building is the one already constructed, but beyond that there are numerous ways in which older and historic buildings of all shapes and sizes can be made even greener. To discuss the many possibilities of “greening” our older buildings, the AHC has gathered a panel of area experts.

The venue is the Native American Longhouse at The Evergreen State Collage in Olympia, WA. A beautiful space for us to be spend the day in.
